to do 'family time'

I'm gonna miss my honey, husband is staying home :(

Steve, the guy who owns the 'outyard' (where the bees are located) got a new job, he has to go to Guadalajara next week..

I didn't ask if he's working as a drug mule

I hope not, his wife would be frightfully upset.

I've never been. Ive been to some border town (Matamoros, Tijuana and a handful of others) and it's been all little kids selling Chicklets and stuffed bullfrogs smoking cigars :(

there are some gorgeous cities in Mexico, though. I think the nicest (and least americanized) I've been to is La Paz. Heavenly!

i don't think guadalajara is too americanized either, even though it is so big. imho it's more like spain or large european cities. maybe since it's not along the coast it's managed to miss some of that resort feel and so many americans visiting. the population of the metro area is 4 million so it's huge, but yet very green and filled with trees and plazas galore.

it's considered a very cultural city, mexico's equivalent of san francisco. there are many many art museums and cultural organizations, and in general is very forward-thinking.

did he say what he's going to be doing there?

it sounds LOVELY, I'll have to go see it. There was a segment on NPR where law enforcement officials of border towns (mexican AND american) were complaining that the media (and Rick Perry) are instilling hysteria in people when it comes to the drug situation in that area

Steve does computer work, and got laid off a few months ago, so I'm guessing he's doing contracting work for an American firm that uses Mexican labor. Its just a shame he has to travel, I got the impression he's kind of a homebody (he's got goats and chickens and ducks, and a huge garden) and he has a young child at home (not even 2). I do know he was so concerned about finances, though, so I'm glad he got a job.

I'll ask him next time I see him around, he wanted to see the inside of the beehive.. I'll be catching up with him sooner or later

it sounds similar to some of the jobs e. has had, contract management stuff, some of it in mexico. i hope it works out better for steve than it has for e. - he kept getting laid off. (although...these days it doesn't matter really where you work, that risk is there regardless.)
