I got an EXPLANATION OF BENEFITS (namely THIS IS WHAT WE'RE NOT COVERING, LOSER) from my insurance company

apparently they think I owe the local hospital $5K for four rabies shots because apparently rabies is "a limitation or exclusion under your plan".

So I called and said ITS RABIES WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM and after over half an hour on hold the representative said "oopsie, you have no exclusions under your plan, sorry. We'll resubmit."

I fully expect to get another letter saying the claim has been rejected.

IT'S RABIES NOT A BOOB JOB.

and $5K for a series of shots? Excessive, much?

meanwhile, Ana Plasma (aka Anna Banana) is off to be speutered. I half wanted her owner to step forward so I could scream at them for not getting the poor little thing fixed. She's such a love and I'm just glad she's okay after her health issue.

Oh good lord.

I know someone who used to work for a doctor's office, and she said that some insurance companies routinely deny valid claims in the hope that the person whose claim is denied won't bother appealing.

I'm glad Anna Banana is doing okay!

there is NO DOUBT in my mind that's what was going on here
Appealing medical claims that have been denied is like a hobby for me, I've been through the process five times (but never with this company)

It just pisses me off that if I DIDN'T have insurance, this is probably what it would have cost. Meanwhile, my insurance company pays less for a BRAIN MRI than an uninsured person would for a series of rabies shots

:(

I once had my claim denied for an annual exam at the gynecologist. Yeah. I ask you, is there ANYTHING that should be covered more than that? Like, isn't that the first thing on the list of things that are covered?

WOW O_o

Yeah, they did cover it when I appealed, but it took some serious balls to deny it in the first place.
They said that your boob job is covered. What size do you want? There's a sale on D and E.
YAY I can have huge boobage as I'm drooling and hallucinating as I die a horrific death from a condition for which there is no cure!
Yeah, but you'll have knockers to DIE for!

That just disgraceful. I'm sorry that this has happened and hope that it all works out soon.

Health insurance is such a crock of warm kitty doodoo...we pay all this money for premiums, and they still manage to milk even more money out of us for copays and things that are supposedly not covered. But it's terrible to be without--the last time I got bloodwork done the tests would have been like $500, but my insurance paid their rate, which was 80. It's sick the cash rate is much higher than the insurance pay rate! Healthcare in this country is messed up...part of the reason my last visit to urgent care to get stitches out took so long is because they wouldn't see me without confirming my insurance, but no one was available to talk at the insurance office on Friday afternoon! It took almost an hour just to get it confirmed so that I could see a dr. for less than 1 min.

Give 'em hell! Idiots.
